CHELSEA FC- TRANSFER REVIEW

The summer transfer window is well under way and the market has gone mad. Reports of Neymar signing for PSG for 220 million Euros is the epitome of this crazy transfer market. However, PSG aren’t the only team in Europe to spend big this window. Chelsea are certainly one of the teams to do this, Currently at time of writing the Blues have made 4 signings.  Today we are going to discuss how these signings may make an impact to the team and how well they will play in the Premier League in the 17/18 season. As well as this we will also briefly discuss some of the rumored players linked to Chelsea, and how they will fit in with the London side.

1. Willy Caballero- So certainly not a signing to get the fans excited but  a smart bit of business none the less from the Blues. Signed as a backup for Courtois, the 35 year old wont expect to see much game time between the sticks next season but he is an experienced hand that can come on and do a good job if Courtois were ever to get injured. Considering he was signed on a free from Man City its definitely a signing Conte can be happy to have for squad depth this season.

My rating for this transfer is 7/10. Nothing to be ecstatic about but a decent player to have in the team. Its not like Eduardo was getting any game time anyway.

Antonio Rudiger- A player that fans were not expecting to sign until a few days prior to his reveal, Rudiger is a strong and fast center back who looks as though he will make it in to Conte’s starting line up this coming season. The blues were previously linked to questionably better defenders in Bonucci and Van Dijk before Rudiger joined from Roma for 30million which is a little disappointing. Another downside from the transfer is that it forced Kurt Zouma to go out on loan to Stoke. Both players are similar in playing style so there have been questions over the signing of Rudiger as he simply wasn’t needed in the squad. His quality however is undoubted, in the confederations cup for Germany this summer he stood out and I’m sure he will be a good addition to the Blues this year.

My rating for this transfer is 6/10. Not the best signing of the players we had a possibility of signing but he does show quality and I see he has potential to be one of the best defenders in the league.

Tiemoue Bakayoko- What seems to be a near like for like swap for Matic, Bakayoko seems to have a place in the starting line up once he recovers from knee surgery that he had earlier in the summer. After shining for Monaco in Ligue 1 and The Champions League last year Bakayoko managed to seal a deal to Chelsea for a reported 35million. Physicality is his main strength in game and he has the ability to break up play and start off attacks in the middle of the park. He has a lot of potential and playing with Kante in the midfield it looks like a dominant force that will stop most potent attack forces in their tracks. Under the guidance of Antonio Conte he will also be able to extend his game and become more formidable.

My rating for this signing is 8/10. Although this transfer has been questioned by some experts, I see that he has the qualities that will strengthen our starting line up.

Alvaro Morata- Chelsea’s all time record signing, Morata comes in to the side with a lot of weight of a large transfer fee on his shoulders. After impressing in blips in the pre season minutes he received, he will hope to get on the score sheet as quick as possible this year. With Diego Costa looking to be out the door, Morata has some big boots to fill but I feel, and so does Conte, that he will perform strongly for the Blues. His hold up play is far greater than Costa’s and he’s also better in the air. With players like Fabregas and Hazard supplying him with balls in to the box, he should be expected to score 20+ goals in the league this year.

My rating for this transfer is 8/10. He may not have the greatest goal scoring record for a 70million signing but the 24 year old has enough quality and potential to become one of the greatest frontmen in world football.

Now we are going to rate how much of an impact some of the potential rumored players will have on the Chelsea squad next season

Alex Sandro- A clear improvement on Marcos Alonso, Sandro would be well worth the fee and would make a left hand side of Sandro and Hazard one of the best in the world 9/10

Danny Drinkwater– A complete WTF rumor, Drinkwater wouldn’t find a place in the starting XI straight away and the only positive from this rumor is that he would fill our home grown quota 4/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- Questionably an improvement on Moses, Chamberlain is a young and exciting player who is versatile enough to play in a number of positions. He would also place under the home grown quota 7/10

Antonio Candreva- Another Italian linked to Conte’s side, Candreva would primarily play as a right wing back but could also play on the right of a front three. A good player with an engine big enough to get him up and down the field, it is the 20million price tag that puts me off the 30year old. Not a clear improvement on Moses, Candreva wouldn’t make much of an impact at Stamford Bridge 5/10
